It is with immense sadness that we have to pass on the news that Carl ‘Carlos’ Butterworth, our friend, Cajon player and singer, finally lost his two year battle with cancer earlier today. We send our love and thoughts to his daughter Harley and the rest of Carl’s family. Carl was ‘one of a kind’. People often say that, but Carl really was. Throughout his illness he continued to play with the band and even took up photography as a new challenge. The result of which were some of the finest, most emotive, landscape pictures we have ever seen. Carl’s grit, determination, good humour and bloody mindedness in the face of a terrible illness, was nothing short of inspirational. Many of those around him were unaware of the serious battle he was fighting. Carl was kind, loyal, feisty and single minded. On Friday’s he had no filter and he rarely turned down a Pontefract cake; but most of all, he was our friend and we miss him. Carl, you will always be part of the Good Earth Collective, no matter where in the universe you are. If you want to join for a rehearsal you know when and where to find us, and there’s always a Cajon waiting.
